About
Faye has been drawing and sketching since she was five years old. She hails from Ipoh, Malaysia.
Growing up, she has always harbored ambitions to involve herself with art. However, it was an interest frown upon by many, as art is not a ‘respectable’ enough vocation to earn a good living and gain social status.
Most of her drawing revolves around the fantastical: of enchanting maidens with mysterious powers and of bizarre worlds from her imagination. As a teenager, she has always hid her work from others because she felt they wouldn’t understand. She was right. One day during a classroom inspection, her teacher confiscated her sketchbook because it contained ‘questionable’ images.
After high school, she abandoned her hopes for a career in art and turned to a more practical field: engineering. She studied under a government scholarship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, USA; and graduated with a double major in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics four years later.
A ten year career followed, during which, her time devoted to drawing dwindled throughout the years until she stopped completely
.
She began to realize she wasn’t happy with her career. After much soul-searching, she decided (much to her mother’s dismay) that corporate life is not for her, and that her interest has always been somewhere else.
When her husband received a job offer in Miri, Borneo; she considered it a ’sign’ for a change to finally pursue her OWN interests, instead of pursuing other people’s interest. She resigned from her position at BMW Malaysia and relocated to this small city in the Borneo island.
She has been here eversince, happily sketching and drawing away while loving the ability to be there for her son all the time.
Will she ever work again? Perhaps. But until then she’ll be making up for lost time, and see where that path will eventually take her
