Upcoming Projects

These are several upcoming and ongoing photography projects that I am working on for the year:

01The First Blockade (May '08) - I will be in Long Napir during Wesak weekend to witness the remnants of the blockade erected by the Penans to prevent logging activities in the area. There is so much history in Long Napir which includes the arrest of several Penans years ago. I plan to do a photo essay on this in monotone.

02Reserve Land (tentative May '08) - The Malaysian government has set aside Sungai Adang among the special forest reserve schemes for the nomadic Penans. If the schedule permits, I and a group of friends will explore the area in search of the elusive nomadic hunter-gatherer tribes. This is tentative as we have a short time frame during the Wesak weekend. UPDATE: Word has it that the Penans at Sungai Adang has moved to Long Sembayang. We will be heading there instead. My area of focus will be to capture images of Penan basketry and record their way of life on my camera.

03Irau Aco Lun Bawang (June '08) - The Lun Bawang tribe are mostly found in Limbang Division of Sarawak, Malaysia, especially in and around Lawas town. They are known to be peaceful and friendly people. Irau Aco Lun Bawang is the annual festival held by the tribe at the town of Lawas. I will be heading there during Keamatan to capture the spirit and hospitality of the Lun Bawang.

04Keamatan Road Trip (June '08) - This will be a photo essay on how Keamatan is celebrated in the west coast of Sabah. I am currently working on the details at the moment.

05Sarawak Rivers (July - August '08) - This will be a series of photos on the lives and activities that depend upon the rivers of Sarawak.

06Iguarande (September '08) - If all goes to plan, I will be heading to the French village of Iguarande in mid-September for a wedding commission (I am not a wedding photographer, but the client is an old friend - how could I refuse). I'm also thinking of a photo series that describe life in the French countryside.

07Paris (September '08) - I'm planning to do some photo essays in Paris while I am in France. Contrary to what many will think, photographing Paris is hard, because it is one of the most photographed cities in the world. I am researching on how to capture a different and fresh perspective to this famous city.
